Meghan Donohue is currently a first year student at UVA majoring in Neuroscience. In her free time Meghan enjoys baking, wearing sundresses, and singing badly to good music. She is constantly inspired by the conversations she overhears and her own life experiences as a military brat and a science student. “The Little Guillotine” was inspired by the sometimes unpleasant procedures Meghan must perform as a research assistant at a biology lab at UVA. She started writing poetry because it was a requirement to graduate, but now she kind of likes it. She is also a closet band dork.
Russell Evans is a 2005 graduate of MWC. He now teaches language arts at a middles school in Manassas, VA. Russell would like to acknowledge the generous support and knowledge he received while studying under Dr. Kennedy, Dr. Emerson, and Dr. Kemp as an undergraduate at MWC. The poem exhibited here is partly autobiographical.
Christina Mamangakis is an English major and senior at Georgetown University. She looks forward to launching her own publishing career in Manhattan come summer. Compulsiveness is key to her writing process; while she considers a minimum of two outlines and ten drafts normal, these actions serve as a constant source of amusement for her friends. Very Greek, obsessed with ultimate (to the point of it being unhealthy), addicted to caffeine, and kind of in love with Josh Groban, Christina most enjoys writing creative non-fiction pieces.
Kelly Mann is a senior business major from Williamsburg, VA.
Megan Ronan is a recent graduate of the University of Mary Washington. She is currently living in New Jersey doing nothing and will pursue an MFA in poetry at George Mason this fall.
Amanda Rutstein is a graduating senior English major.
Jeremy Schneider has been taking photos since he was very young. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, writing and camping the many New York State parks. He lives in upstate New York with his family and their 6 cats.
Chelsea St. Clair grew up in Orlando, Florida and attended the University of Mary Washington from 2001-2005. After graduating from UMW with a BA in English, she backpacked around Europe for a few months before returning to Orlando. Since October 2005, she has been working as a college counselor for a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting disadvantaged students with postsecondary enrollment. In fall 2007, she plans to teach secondary English and begin her MA in English Literature.
Jess Volinski grew up in Connecticut, lived for a few years in New York City and now calls New Jersey home. Spending equal time at the drawing board and at the monitor, she strives to strike a balance between nature and technology. Her days are spent drawing & designing, surrounded by art books and piles of reference of everything from vintage t-shirts and dishware, to typography and magazine ads. Part illustrator, part designer, she has worked extensively in the fashion trend field creating textile and t-shirt designs for major manufacturers across the country. Her signature style is a organic combination of flowing shapes, florals, and figurative forms. Jess is particularly fond of drawing with her blue mechanical pencil and hopes it never gets lost.
Sarrina Wood is a second grade teacher at Holy Cross Academy who graduated from Mary Washington in 2006. She enjoys reading, writing, and, of course, her students!
